7 ways to change your life in the next 7 days

Life change may seem to take years to achieve but there are steps you can walk today and in the next week that perhaps can change your life forever.

Most are little steps, but when combined together they can create big and lasting change.

Here are 7 ways to change your life in the next 7 days.

1. Change your words and phrases

One of the most effective ways to change your life is to change your attitude and mindset. And the best way to change your attitude and mindset is to remove certain words and phrases from your vocabulary and to replace them with others that are more positive.

It might take some time to remove negative phrases and words because you’ve gotten so used to them. But once you start using new words and phrases that are more positive, you’ll be surprised at how almost instantly people around you react differently and how you look at the world around you in a fresh way.

Your entire life changes without you having to change everything.

Here are some words and phrases to stop using:

- “It’s just one of those days.”

- “Same s**t, different day.”

- “Same old, same old.”

- “Pretty good.”

- “What’s the world coming to?”

- “Kids these days.”

- “I can’t.”

- “I don’t know.”

- “The good old days.” (thanks Tyler!)

- Hate – It’s such a powerful word that has become too common in our vocabulary.

- Retarded – I don’t know why people insist on using this word to describe something they don’t like or understand.

- Gay (requested by Max based on the same negative use as “retarded”)

For some ideas on what you can start saying to improve your life and make lasting, positive change, please read our article: 50 things to say before you die.

2. Count your blessings

We all get caught up and forget to reflect on how fortunate we are. So in the next 7 days take an hour and think about:

- What you’re glad to have experienced – sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s a bad experience, but it’s shaped who you are. For me, one thing I’m glad I experienced was poverty.

- What you’re fortunate to have – family, food, shelter.

- What you’re fortunate to not have – it could be sickness or debt.

3. Dust off your bucket list

Take out your list of things to do before you die and find something you can do in the next week. Or write something new down and do it.

4. Wake up claiming the Best. Day. Ever.

One day can positively change your entire life. And that one day needs to start with one good morning.

During the next 7 days wake up claiming that it will be the best day ever and try your hardest to maintain that attitude all day.

5. Try something you think you’re bad at

Perhaps you think you’re horrible at singing, writing, basketball, or some other talent. But perhaps you’ve just never really given yourself the time to attempt and if you do, you might find a new talent for yourself.

6. Declare your life’s purpose

It can certainly be done in a week with focus and a bit of work.

To help you, here are two articles you might be interested in reading:

- 5 easy pieces to piecing together your purpose in life

- What do you want on your headstone?

7. Recognize change happens constantly

Every single day your life changes no matter what. Even if you go through the same routine over and over again, no two days are ever the same. Recognize this and even the days of adversity and pain will become bearable because you know that “good new days” lie ahead.

(Number 5 was rephrased. It first read “Try something you’re bad at.” Number 7 was also rephrased. Both were changed to get the points across more clearly.)\

20 ways to Change your world...

20 Ways to Change the World

http://www.lyved.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/world.png

Here are twenty things that you can do to change people’s lives, yourself, and the world. These are in no particular order.

1 – Adopt – Adopting someone is one of the greatest things you can do. You’ll change your life and someone else’s. Adopt a baby, a child, or a teen. By being adopted they’ll always know that there is truly kind people in the world and they’ll pay it back to society.

2 – Just Be Nice – This is something EVERYONE can do, you don’t need any money or any talent. Hold the door for someone, smile, or say hello. You will change someone’s whole day, week, month, year, or maybe even life. Then they’ll be nicer to others, which will just continue the cycle and you won’t even realize that YOU changed THOUSANDS of lives.

3 – Donate – Donate blood, food, time, money, or whatever you can. Donate online, help entrepreneurs in developing countries on Kiva, lend to people on Prosper, or just play the simple game on FreeRice.

4 – Be Positive – Bring more positivity into the world. It so simple but so effective.

5 – Listen – Listen to people, let them talk, learn about their lives, sometimes that’s all someone needs.

6 – Start a Business – Become a social entrepreneur with a company that donates a portion of your profits to charity, or employ those “at risk”. Don’t hire those who graduated from the most prestigious universities and had an easy life, hire those that struggled and triumphed through adversity. They’ll work the hardest because they know what it takes.

7 – Create Art – “Paint” the world. Create more music, paintings, writings, photography, or any other art. Art inspires, motivates, and changes lives.

8 – Get Vocal – Have a cause that you’re passionate about? Get out there and make your voice heard. Hold rallies, protest, write letters, write articles in newspapers, blog about it, or start a forum. Being silent isn’t going to do anything.

9 – Be a Great Parent – Teach your children about the world and how they can change it. Teach them that the possibilities of life are limitless.

10 - Pick Up Trash – No one seems to do this. Just pick up trash that you see lying on the ground. Every little bit helps.

11 – Talk – When you’re done listening, talk. Talk about their life, your life, the weather. Talk to strangers sitting next to you on a bench. You never know where it can lead.

12 – Be an Inspiration – Do something that people said you could never do. Take risks and succeed! This will inspire others to do the same and continue the cycle.

13 – Become a Teacher – Become a teacher with the true ambition of teaching children to succeed in school and in life. Teach from books but also teach from life.

14 – Become a Surrogate Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Whatever – Many children and adults who lost or were abandoned by a family member may desire to fill that void. Many children from broken families need help to break the cycle and statistics. Become a Big Brother or Big Sister, be someone they never had.

15 – Vote – Vote in your local elections and national elections. Choose a candidate that can truly follow through, not the one that promises all these grand plans that never seem to pan out.

16 – Don’t Be Judgmental- Too many people judge others on the way they look. You can’t judge a book by its cover. Someone may look completely different than you on the outside but be completely the same on the inside.

17 – Travel the World – Travel around the world and experience new places. Help the economies and people of foreign countries. Embrace their cultures and share your experiences of them with people you know.

18 – Dream & Do: Dream of a better world then go out there and create it. Dreams become reality with enough work and determination.

19 – Focus – Focus on one of these ideas or another one you came up with. Pour all of your energy into one idea until you succeed in changing someone, yourself, or the world. After you do that, then focus on another idea.

20 – Do Something With Your Life! – You don’t have to be a celebrity or a millionaire, just be an productive member of society.

Missing the CCD....

How many times have we missed something in life and never understood it ... you only realise it when you actually find it again ...

My work takes me to places .. Currently am in Mumbai .. staying in a satellite place called Bhaktipark in Wadala .. and work in Mill area .. Cotton Green ..

Life has been hectic with work and daily commute... things are routine .. only thing around which connect me to my lifestyle is Imax dome theatre next to it .. Its been three months since am staying in this place .. Never found time to go for a movie .. but then I was a little lazy also ... :) ...

Yesterday finally I went there to watch Kaminey ... On entry a fact hit me ... I have been used to sit and spend a few hours of my week sitting in CCD (Cafe Coffee Day) ... thinking /reading or with friends usually wasting time... This is a small but substantial "Me time" in my weeks schedule ... in my quality relaxation time ...

The fact stuck hard ... very hard .. we spend small time with ourselves in our lives today ... and when the schedules, work places and times change the first thing "Me time" easily goes out of our schedule and we don’t even realize it ...

The good news is I have found a small cafe in The Imax multiplex... I will now have to find time for "My Time” but atleast I have place to spend it now ...

Just a thought.. There are lots of such " Me times " we have our schedules .. are we actually using them well .....

Think think think ..

Shrinche agaman Jhale..

To translate Lord Ganesh(Shri as he is also called) has arrived ... this weekend trip to Pune was a better one... After a long time I could see faces in Pune .. last 4- 5 weekends I saw only masks ...

There was a faint but a visible smile on people's faces ... Though subdude but there was a freshness in people....

The H1N1 scare did make its presence felt... but nothing can stand in front of Bappa's(one more name for Ganesh) presence.....

There were people on roads .. Happy, dancing celebrating and more over with a feeling of new found freedom... just out of some kind of prison(H1N1)...

A thought.... Is there anything .. any problem .. any scare bigger than bappas grace... :)

I really missed .. " Mere desh ki Dharti "

Pune 15th August Morning 9.15

It was 15th August... I had to go to JM road (10Km) from my home to pick up some guests.. As I was getting ready I was visualizing how the road will be...

First jam at Kothrud Depot... National flag hoisted and songs like " Mere desh ki Dharti " on loudspeaker ... next jam at Durgas.. all the students from MIT and Bharati out in theirs uniforms .. having well deserved breakfast.. (missed due to functions in college) .. next jam SNDT(my sister college) .. special interest .. probability of finding some one i know ;) .. so budget 15 minutes extra..

Next stop will be Nal Stop.. kids selling flags ... keep cash ready ... then after few signals.. deccan... whole student population will be there in some time ...

I had estimated 35-40 minutes to reach the place. ..

I started reached Kothrud Depot ... Flag hoisted .. complete silence ... no kids at mit ... didnt meet anybody near SNDT .. no flags at Nal stop ... Deccan completely empty ...

I reached where I wanted in 15 min flat ...

As I sat in my car waiting for the guests .. the reality struck me real hard .. what has happened to my Pune ... no people on the road. .. the day of celebrations looked like a day of mourning... H1N1 has stuck my city hard.... it has destroyed what my city stands for .. people around in masks ... they are out there coz they need to not because they want to ... ... people at home not at their usual Vaishalis and Roopalis ... what has happened to the routine they had for years .. the routine people of all ages are proud of ...

No smiles on faces ... only ugly looking masks ...

Lots can be written ... but not required .. every one knows ....

I had been planning to start my blog for a long time .. but had been lazy .. but this has struck me so hard ... I had to write this ...

I really missed .. " Mere desh ki Dharti "
